The reward of humility and fear of The Lord.

The reward of humility and fear of the Lord are riches, honor and life. – Proverbs 22:4

The Hebrew word for riches in Proverbs 22:4 is עֹשֶׁר or ȏsher (H6238). The word ȏsher is used 37 times in the Bible and refers to material, earthly riches.

Two examples of riches that use the word ȏsher are 2 Chronicles 1:11 and and 2 Chronicles 9:22.

· And God said to Solomon, because this was in thine heart, and thou hast not asked riches (ȏsher), wealth, or honour, nor the life of thine enemies, neither yet hast asked long life; but hast asked wisdom and knowledge for thyself, that thou mayest judge my people, over whom I have made thee king: - 2 Chronicles 1:11

· And king Solomon passed all the kings of the earth in riches (ȏsher) and wisdom. 2 Chronicles 9:22

While we are taught that we should not trust in riches (Proverbs 11:28) or have the love of money (1 Timothy 6:10); which causes us to put money above God in our hearts. If we live a life of humility and fear of The Lord “riches, honour and life” will be blessed to us.

Fear of The Lord and humility will cause us to live a life of integrity, honour, hard work and diligence, which will lead to riches that will not dwindle away.

· “Dishonest money dwindles away, but whoever gathers money little by little makes it grow. – Proverbs 13:11.

We should strive to live lives of good planning, hard work and diligence. We should always make God the first priority in our hearts. And when we are blessed with “riches and honor” we should praise Him and thank Him for His goodness.

· Good planning and hard work leads to prosperity, but hasty shortcuts lead to poverty. – Proverbs 21:5

· Poor is he who works with a negligent hand. But the hand of the diligent makes rich. – Proverbs 21:5
