Golden Rule Scriptures on how to treat people.

Updated: Jan 15, 2020

1) Do unto others as you would have them do to you

Do unto others as you would have them do to you - Luke 6:31

The ultimate golden rule. Sometime we need to just stop, think, and place ourselves in someone else's shoes.

2) Encourage one another and build each other up.

Therefore encourage one another and build each other up, just as in fact you are doing. - 1 Thessalonians 5:!1

Have you ever heard the saying "If you have nothing nice to say don't say it at all" ? Well that is just it. Our words should encourage and build up people. Sometimes that does mean rebuking, correcting and guiding people in a loving way so that their lives can be built up better. But our words and actions should never be aimed at tearing down, breaking and destroying people.

3) Love each other deeply

Above all, love each other deeply, because love covers over a multitude of sins. - 1 Peter 4:8

LOVE, LOVE, LOVE, LOVE !!! Jesus loves us deeply, so deeply that he died for us. We should not have a shallow, superficial love for one another - but we should love each other DEEPLY !

4) Do not judge.

"Do not judge, or you too will be judged. For in the same way you judge others, you will be judged, and with the measure you use, it will be measured to you." - Matthew 7:1-2

We have no right to judge anyone - we are not God. We do not know what the person has been through, what they have experienced, all the reasons behind their actions, their motives, their hurt, their pain and their fears. Our job is not to judge people but to help and love people as best we can.

5) Forgive

"For if you forgive other people when they sin against you, your heavenly Father will also forgive you. But if you do not forgive other their sins, your Father will not forgive your sins" - Matthew 6:14-15

We are all sinners and we have "all fallen short of the glory of God" - Romans 3:23. Therefore, just as Jesus forgave us we need to forgive others. The Lord's prayer says "Forgive us our trespassed, as we forgive those who trespass against us". It is not always easy to forgive, but we can ask God for help and wisdom and he is FAITHFUL to help us in our weaknesses.

6) Pray continually

"For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of His will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives". - Colossians 1:9

This challenges me so much. PRAY CONTINUALLY. DON'T STOP PRAYING ! Pray that God will bless people with wisdom and understanding. I don't know about you, but I am very good at asking God for wisdom and understanding for myself, but I seldom pray that God will give other people His wisdom and understanding. Yet we should be doing this continually.
